About the NS Advisory
The NS Advisory is hosted by Nourish Nova Scotia
The NS Advisory brings together stakeholders from regions and sectors across NS to engage in dialogue, share resources, and collaborate on collective advocacy towards the development of a Canada-wide school food program that meets the diverse needs of Nova Scotia school communities.
Community health boards, schools, libraries and many community groups have come together to show their support and raise awareness of the benefits and opportunities of healthy food in schools with decision-makers.
#SpeakUp4SchoolFood is a grassroots campaign of the Nova Scotia Advisory, in response to the interest and drive from the Nova Scotia community and has gained local and national momentum.
School food programs, primarily breakfast meals, are delivered in 95% of Nova Scotia public schools at no cost to students. These programs rely on a patchwork of funding sources including the provincial government, charities, community groups, and private/corporate donations, along with parental support. A School Food Program for Canada could help ensure all kids consistently receive nourishing food while at school.
